Having an ADHD (attention defecit hyperactive disorder) project in my Psyche class, I had to watch television in a very noisy enviroment for 15minutes, then a completely quiet enviroment (no sound on tv either) for 15 mins, then discuss it. The professor says, "If you were unable to concentrate in the noisy room, you better understand what a child who has ADHD hears in his or her own head. The constant noise occurs from their unfocused thoughts and it is quite distracting to them."

~Trying to read in a noisy environment was called "mission impossible" for me. I felt like I was on the edge of a cliff, and my hair was turning grey by the strand. I was overwhelmed; it was like nails screeching down a chalk board feeling. I walked away from the book over to my husband who was watching you tube videos, starred at the very loud television, and peered down the hall to the three boys dancing and singing to the top of their lungs. I wanted to go join the fun!
In the quiet environment, i.e. after bedtime (smile), I had an equally difficult time following the television show, although with less of the overwhelming feeling. I thought about how good the McDonald’s food looked, and Oh! I think I'm hungry! Onto how many calories, how bad that food is for you, I need to go the YMCA, quickly followed by my reminder to focus on the television because, at that time it, was a different commercial. The next commercial lead me to reminiscing about having my four children, and all the life that having children entitles for a week of school. (Not to mention the thoughts about this activity and my school work) I was quiet stimulated by this activity as well, loosing focus was not a possibility because I never focused, and could not sit still for the 15 minutes. I had to get up after the second or what I thought was the second commercial, check on the children, and get ready for a week of school.~

The project was a definite eye opener for me. You should try it sometimes, maybe you will see what children with ADHD are faced with too!

Unexpected Blessings

Visit www.moblyng.com to make your own!

Mom came to visit last night, and she brought Granny, but she also brought boxes of clothes from her niece. Admittingly, it was nice to see mom and granny. Unexpected blessing! It was also very nice to see the clothes that mom brought for Lyla-Grace! Unexpected blessing! Billy and I had just been discussing going to yard sales to find her some winter clothes since she is growing like a weed. It was so nice to have so many clothes now that I felt guilty. Lyla-Grace is all set for fall & winter now thanks to Deana & my mom & Norma (my aunt). When people think about you and your family's needs it is defenitely a blessing, no matter how small a thought. We don't realize how God blesses us when He lays our names on the hearts of others. Unexpected Blessings!

Lyla-Grace's antics

Lyla-Grace was looking at a scrapbook that I made for Ethan, the middle son, when he graduated from kindergarten. She sees mommy & daddy. She says, “Look mommy, there’s nana.” She starts naming all of her brothers...Luke, EE, Micah, and then she starts to flip the pages frantically. I tell her, Lyla, don’t tear it up!” she says in all her two year old wisdom...”Where me are, mommy?” I repeat her because that’s what I do as her mommy & she says, “Yes mommy, where me are?” I asked her “you can’t find Lyla-Grace?” she says “no mommy!” That’s so funny! She realizes that she is as much a part of Raineyville as the other characters in the book. She couldn’t find her picture and knew something was missing. Now in reality, she was there, she was in my womb, she couldn’t see her actual body, and she knew something was not right. Knowing that she belongs is such an important aspect in her little life. Knowing that we fit in somewhere and always have a place in this world is important. I’m so glad that Lyla-Grace at the ripe age of two knows that she always has a place to fit in. She realizes that her being a part of society is indeed a big deal as much as the next person. Luckily, Barney started singing something interesting, and I did not have to explain where she was at the time of Ethan’s graduation, but the smile and the insight that I got from her sweet little antics made a great story for my day! ;-)
